WASHINGTON COUNTY –

A custodian at White Bear Lake Central Middle School is facing child pornography charges after images were found on his hard drive. 59-year-old John George Lockmann, Jr. of Hugo has been charged with felony possession of pornographic work on a computer disk.

In August 2007, the Washington County Sheriff’s Office received reports that a hard drive sent to the Best Buy Geek Squad in Maplewood for data recovery contained child pornography.

Geek Squad employees viewed over 800 images contained in a folder titled XXXYOUNGS. The images featured young girls believed to be between the ages of 7 and 15. In some of the pictures the children were nude; in others, they were engaged in sexual acts with adult males.

In an interview, the suspect admitted to downloading images from news groups and saving them to zip disks. Lockmann said he was unaware that downloading child pornography was illegal; he thought it was illegal only to produce or distribute it.

Upon the execution of a search warrant, police found books containing sex writings, VHS tapes, 8 mm movies, zip discs, floppy disks, compact disks, an external hard drive, a zip drive and a computer tower in Lockmann’s place of residence. While analyzing the contents, investigators found over 1,000 images believed to be child pornography. With assistance from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, police recognized three children from the images on Lockmann’s hard drive.

The penalty for possession of pornographic work is five years in prison and $5,000 for a first offense. It is 10 years and $20,000 for a second or subsequent offense.
